Penn State 8v8

The Penn State 8v8 takes place on the campus of Penn State with Beaver Stadium as the backdrop. A certain level of excitement is generated by just standing on the fields. The small-sided format allows teams to pull together a squad despite being between seasons and in prime vacation time. Small-sided soccer also creates a fast-paced, high scoring game that give players many more touches on the ball.

26-Jun-2009In spite of the weather the teams completed their scheduled games on time.
11-Jul-2008top notch tournament for all - would highly recommend to everyone.
4-Jul-2008I have taken my team to several tournaments over the course of the past several years. Penn State 8 v 8 was, by far, the best experience.
3-Jul-2008Overall this was a very good tournament. As for cleanliness, everything was very clean except for the portable toilets. By midday on Sunday they were digusting. My players wouldn't use them, they drove to a restaurant to use their facilities. Either more portable toilets or have them cleaned after Saturday's games are some options.
I also think that both the winning and losing coach should sign the scorecards, not just the winning coach.

Thank You
1-Jul-2008Probably one of the best tournaments for the price that our team has participated in over the years. Great setting for the tournament and the officiating for our 4 games (Mountaineer Soccer U17 Boys) was as good as we have seen.
30-Jun-2008Even though the championship game could not be played becuase of weather. I think they should have used penalty kicks to settle the score especially since the two teams involved in most cases did not play in the prelim. There was a 15 minute window in which this could have been accomplished.

Over all the tournament was great and I will be back next year with more than one team.
30-Jun-2008A recommendation for future events. I think it would be helpful to have a motorized cart available to help assist injured players to the medical tent. We had two injuries occur that a cart would have made it much easier to get the player to the medical tent.

Otherwise it was a great event. This was the first time for us at this tournament for my two teams. We'll be back!
30-Jun-2008This was our second trip, and we enjoyed it again.

The only thing that was not good was we were in a 9 team bracket and finsihed second, and did not get a chance to play the first place team. We played 2 weak teams that did not offer much competition. Maybe getting a little more creative with the bracketing could have improved this area.

Also, the website can be a little clumsy to work through, but it was not real bad.

Concessions were limited, especially since we were not allowed to grill.

Overal great event. I liked the cell phone notifications
30-Jun-2008This was a fantastic tourney. We will return in years to come and encourage other local clubs to do the same.
30-Jun-2008Patches were not given out by opposing teams in 6 out of 8 games our teams played.
30-Jun-2008Overall is a great venue. I am a very hard grader, but this tournament was great. It would be nice, if referees could read the rules before the tournament. Also, they do not have to forget about the kids that play this game. It seemed like they were concerned more about themselves more than anything else. Some of them were mean to parents and coaches. Referee in our 2nd game was very rude to my coaching staff and parents. After I expressed my feelings, he made sure to call everything one way. Prices for food were very cheap, but food should be a little bit more healthier for players. I would love to see fruits, greens, yougurt. Something healthy that does not stay in the stomich for hours. Children play 4 games in one day and should eat healthy. I am sure, there are places that would love to put their business at the tournament. Overall, I would love to come back for this tournament again. We had a lot of fun, and were lucky with weather.
30-Jun-2008We had a question for the field marshall about a parent coaching from the endline and distracting our goalie, we asked if he was allowed to be there and coaching from the endline and the field marshalls answer was a shrug of the shoulders and said "I don't know" and that was that. We had to have our player tell the ref to have anything done. We also had to unfortunatly play up an age group because not enough U-9 teams were registered.
30-Jun-2008Field size for older age groups were not age-appropriate and should have been bigger than the fields used for younger ages.
30-Jun-2008I was very pleased with the tournament, and I would bring my team back again.
